HIDDEN ASSEMBLAGES is the first album from PHONODELICA in a trilogy highlighting the different sides of the artist's spirituality and sexuality as a queer/bi Muslim woman, both light and dark. This work unpacks the isolation and trauma of Islamophobia in all its forms while critiquing the racism that plagues all Arab and Muslim communities and celebrating the Black-Palestinian solidarity movements.

A deep, unbridled joy is from Jarrar's opera based on the collected oral histories of Palestinian women and girls, "Seamstress". Perusal score requests via e-mail for the score.

Original audio samples collected by the artist on Checkpoint were recorded in various parts of Palestine, most notably at the illegal apartheid wall and Qalandia Checkpoint, that separates Ramallah from Jerusalem. Field recordings include sounds of the soldiers, the sound of the caged turnstile spinning and the echoes of the saxophone on the other side of the checkpoint. The choir was sampled from the artist's 2nd grade music class at the adjacent refugee camp.

Donia Jarrar (field recordings, original sampling, percussion, piano on 6)
Freya Aquarone (saxophone improvisation and co-production on 6)
Khaleel Abu-Ain (bass on 6)

Audio recordings taken from "The Noble Struggle of Amina Wadud" on 2 & 3 as well as the late President Gamal Abdel Nasser's 1966 speech in Cairo on 7.
